Cholera Prevention Workshops in Monte Plata

April 1st, 2011

Rosa Rosario leads a workshop on cholera prevention with youth in Monte Plata.

As part of their continuing campaign of cholera prevention, Social Services of the Dominican Churches held a workshop over the subject of cholera prevention and treatment. In this workshop thirty-eight people participated, including men, women, and youth, who have committed to return to their schools and communities to teach others how they can prevent cholera.

The workshop was led by SSID’s health coordinator, Rosa Lourdes Rosario, as well as Joseph Osquil Leger, Carmen Santana, and Wilfredo Garcia.

Workshops on cholera have also been held in Haiti, with the communities of Ganthier and Boen, where SSID has been working since the earthquake. There the communities developed plans for cholera prevention, and twelve community members were chosen to become cholera prevention trainers. Since then they have held similar workshops in nearby schools and communities.
