About SSID
Who We Are
Social Services of the Dominican Churches (SSID) is a Christ centered, inter-denominational, non-for profit organization. Our members come from Evangelical, Protestant, and Christian Ecclesiastical churches throughout the Dominican Republic. We work to address the causes of the social, economic, and political problems that face our country.
SSID was founded in May of 1962, and formally organized on the 15th of December, 1963.
Our Work
We work with and continue to build a network of churches, institutions, and communities in an inclusive process of dialogue, participation, and coordination. Together we work to address the needs of the poorest through community organizing, educational projects, and leadership training, so that those we work with can become agents of change in their own community's development.
Mission
We will work at the national and international level as leaders and advocates of community focused development.
Vision
We will be a leading organization in community development, with our focus being on capacity building and training.
Institutional Objectives
The goals of our institution are:
- To educate and train the poorest families so that they can be the authors and actors of their own futures and development
- To integrate the work of the church and the communities, so that we can multiply the strengths of our organizations.
- To use the resources and talents of the communities, churches, organizations, agencies, businesses, and the state together in cooperation to reduce economic dependency.
- To build teams of collaborators who are trained in community organizing, and social changes taking place at local, national, and international levels, in order to join our efforts, and effectively complete our mission and vision.
- To promote human rights and insure that they are upheld in the communities, through the formation and transformation of the structures and styles of life so that we may build social justice, and protect each persons inherent rights.
Organizational Values
As an organization we strive to promote:
